Wasserstrom Family Gift to Nationwide Children’s Hospital
The following is an excerpt from an article in the Nationwide Children’s Hospital “Change Their Tomorrow” Winter 2010/2011 Mailing:
“Nathan Wasserstrom left Hungary in 1892 in search of a better life in America, the same year that a 6-bed children’s hospital opened its doors on the east side of Columbus, Nathan moved his family to Columbus from New York City ten years later, and his first business was about a half mile from Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s current location. The Wasserstrom Family has been a strong Children’s supporter for decades, and their most recent $500,000 gift is yet another example of their generosity, and their belief in giving back to make Columbus a better place to live and raise a family.
Ask the Wasserstrom family about the impact of Nationwide Children’s Hospital on their family and their staff, and you will hear story after story of excellent clinical care combined with compassion for the entire family. Both of Brad Wasserstrom’s children have also been Nationwide Children’s patients, and he echoed other family members’ comments when he said “we knew we were in good hands at Children’s, and we are so fortunate that we can give back.”
As Nationwide Children’s Hospital grew from its humble beginnings, so have the Wasserstrom Companies. Today, more than 1,200 associates work in more than 29 locations in 17 cities. But their core values remain the same: hard work, teamwork, respect for all associates, commitment to customers, and giving back.
“Columbus has been good to the Wasserstrom family, and they, in turn, are helping make Nationwide Children’s Hospital the best children’s hospital in the country,” said Jon Fitzgerald, president, Nationwide Children’s Hospital Foundation. “We are humbled by their generous gift, and we are thrilled that they have chosen to invest in better healthcare for all children.”
