Bought this for French onion soup and was afraid that there were too small but they are just the right size; not too small and not too big. I can see that some would want to have a larger serving, however. Other than that the product is good and serves my purpose perfectly.[...]

I am using them to hold plasticware at a wedding reception. Then they will be used for everyday use. I love them, right size for many uses.
QUESTION Can these be placed in the oven? If so then what is the max degrees? Can they be placed in the microwave? What is the big deal about them being ceramic?
ANSWER Yes, these can be placed in the oven and microwave. Ceramic is capable of being heated in the microwave and oven, unlike metal (not microwavable) and plastic (not ovenproof). Typically, these are used to make onion soup, and then placed under a broiler to melt the cheese on top. The max degrees is 500 F.
