When Jason Koprivich earned the positions of Executive Chef and Director of Culinary and Nutritional Services at Ohio Living Westminster-Thurber, he knew the facility needed a full kitchen and dining room overhaul.
Ohio Living Westminster-Thurber is Columbus, Ohio’s premier life plan community. Located in the lovely Victorian Village neighborhood on the edge of downtown Columbus, it’s designed to support residents as their healthcare needs evolve over time. In addition to independent senior living apartments, residents have access to assisted living, memory care, long-term nursing care, and short-term rehabilitation – all within the Ohio Living Westminster-Thurber community.
At the beginning of Jason’s tenure with Ohio Living, he was presented with a “very small, hole-in-the-wall kitchen” with a dinner area to seat 50. As a fine-dining chef, Jason knew he could not serve the residents in his community the quality they deserved with such limited resources. Likewise, their supplies were sourced from at least six different vendors, which resulted in a chaotic mess of schedules, paperwork, and bureaucracy.
As a hotel and restaurant dining pro, Jason Koprivich had a vision for the residents at Ohio Living — to create a destination restaurant serving high-end, freshly prepared food with an open kitchen where residents could interact with the culinary staff. But first, he needed the right equipment to fit the vision of his menu.
Ohio Living fully supported his expansion plans to create a modern commercial kitchen that will run like a restaurant as well as be available for catering.
Wasserstrom is a 4th-generation industry leader of foodservice equipment and supplies sales, distribution, and manufacturing. We're more than just products — we partner with our clients to create the best dining experience for their customers. A commercial kitchen rebuild has a lot of moving pieces, from conception to completion. With our expert-level equipment and smallware’s sales team, kitchen designers, and engineers, we provide our customers with elevated customer service throughout their build.
As soon as Jason’s rebuild began, he enlisted the help of Joan Payne, one of Wasserstrom’s Regional Sales Account Managers and smallwares experts. To make life simpler, Joan took over all of his smallwares and equipment ordering and supplies. Everything used in their kitchen, whether front-of-house or back-of-house, was purchased from Wasserstrom. Now, Jason can spend more time in the kitchen, and much less time keeping up to date on vendor orders.
Joan also assisted in equipment replacement, bringing in her trusty tape measure with a vendor representative always in tow, to ensure everything is perfect and all specifications have been met. For equipment, she managed the delivery and installation process. Additionally, she managed the equipment warranty information and supplied contact information.
Every piece of equipment that I’ve bought for this place in the last 10 years has been through Joan. The amount of work Wasserstrom takes off my plate allows me to focus on creating an amazing experience for my residents.”
