QUESTION
I've used your devices for some time and wonder about its accuracy since it never has the same readings as the official NOAA one has. The bimetallic spring which is the guts of the device corrodes after a time. Does that affect its accuracy ? How can I protect it in the salt enviornment here ? Would a lacquer coating help or would that affect its accuracy ? Thank you.

ANSWER
Hi. High humidity, especially with a high salt content can cause the premature corrosion. This will eventually have an effect on the accuracy of the unit as the coil erodes. Likewise, applying any lacquer or other solution can have an effect on the accuracy as it may restrict its reaction to heat and cold.
If the unit corrodes, it will need to be replaced. For your salt environment, you might want to look into marine/nautical or all-weather thermometers that are corrosion proof.
