QUESTION
I'm looking for a leak-proof wine stopper. We lay our wine bottles (open and unopened) horizontally in the wine fridge. Our current wine stoppers (rubber but look like corks that easily fit in the opening) sometimes pop off and the wine spills. It's wasteful and it's a mess. Can we lay the bottles horizontally with these stoppers or do you make any that would work?

ANSWER
The Vacu Vin 884060 rubber wine stopper does create a tight enough seal with the pump that the bottle could be laid on it's side. However, Vacu Vin does not recommend doing this because the wine can seep into the stopper. Using the pump with wine in the stopper can suck wine into the pump making it sticky and causing problems. It can also lessen the effectiveness of the stopper if it gets sticky inside.
