Bodum® 1208-01 Santos 34 Oz. Stovetop Vacuum Coffee Maker
The best thing about this product is it is hands down the best coffee you will ever taste; There is no bitterness, sourness, etc. The worst thing is the pieces themselves are beautiful but delicate. I've owned one before and to replace either glass part is more expensive than buying a whole new one-so be VERY careful when washing it. It also is not that large, which is fine for me but some like a "party" amount of coffee.

Bodum® 1208-01 Santos 34 Oz. Stovetop Vacuum Coffee Maker
This pot makes more coffee than you'd think when you first see it. It makes really good coffee and looks nice. The handle can be positioned to the best convenience of the server. It IS glass so needs to be handled carefully but it is also easy to clean. If one uses a heat diffuser on the stove the heat can be kept at a low setting to keep the coffee hot.

Question:

Are both the upper and lower sections made of glass?

Answer:

Yes, Both are made of glass, You need to watch carefully that you don't let it boil dry in the brewing process. There shoud be about 1/8" inch water left in the bottom when you remove it from the burner. If you let it boil dry the bottom glass will crack.

Question:

Do you get the top and stand for this? I have a yama and when I take off the top, it doubles as a place to put the top half into the little round tube which sometimes causes the glass tube to break. Does this one have something to put the top carafe into to balance it? What kind of filter is used with this one? With my yama it uses cloth filters that I have to replace. Thanks for any help.

Answer:

You do receive the top and bottom with this coffee maker. There is a glass funnel that the water will go through to mix with the coffee grounds. There is a hook that is connected from the filter to the glass funnel. Thank you.

Question:

does it work on gaz burner.thank you vacum coffe maker

Answer:

Hi. This can work on a gas burner. They recommend that a heat diffuser plate be used with it to prevent damage, but i've read some peoples' experience without a diffuser. They just heat it at a medium-high setting.

Question:

MANY YEARS AGO AND I AM 72 NOW I HAD A STAINLESS STEAL COFFEE MAKER WHICH WAS BASED ON GRAVITY... THE WATER HEATED ROSE TO UPPER PART AND THEN FILTERED DOWN., I SINCE HAVE A GLASS MAKER BUT I AM UNCOMFOTYABLE TO USE GLASS ITEM AS I AM AFRAID IT WILL BREAK.... DO YOU STILL PRODUCE THE BODEM IN STAINLESS OR CAN YOU SUGGEST WHERE I MIGHT FIND IT.... THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

Answer:

Hi. Sorry, I can't seem to find any manufacturers that still make the stainless steel vacuum coffee makers. Perhaps some vintage stores or private online sellers would have them. Some brands that used to make them are Nicro, Adcraft, and Clydeware. Thanks!

Question:

Please give directions on how to make the coffee in this vacuum coffee maker. Thanks, Marianne

Answer:

Hello, here are the instructions for this product: 1) Pour the required amount of water into the bottom glass jug. 2) Then place the jug either on an electric, gas or methylated spirits stove. The glass jug may not be wet on the outside. For gas stoves we recommend that you use a heat diffuser. 3) Now insert the filter in the funnel.4) There is a small chain on the filter with a hook. Pull the chain gently and secure the hook to the edge of the tube. 5) Place the ground coffee in the funnel. Use one scoop of coffee for each cup. Any grind of coffee can be used. 6) Now place the funnel on the jug and bring the water to a boil. 7) The water in the jug will now rise into the funnel and mix with the ground coffee. Around 2 cm of water will remain in the glass jug at the bottom. (If no water remains in the jug, it must be removed from the heat immediately and then replace since there is a risk that it will crack from the heat). 8) Now take the coffee machine off the heat and place it on a surface which is neither cold nor wet. The coffee is now “brewed”, the coffee should now pass into the lower jug. Should it cease to fall into the jug simply replace onto the heat and bring to the boil again. 9) As soon as the coffee has run out of the funnel into the jug, remove the funnel. The coffee is now ready to drink. Clean the funnel by removing the coffee grinds, releasing the filter hook from the glass tube and rinsing both thoroughly. Thank you!
