This timer is, bar none, the best kitchen multi-timer you will find.
The only problem with it for a home kitchen is that its beep/alarm is exceptionally loud. I think it must have been designed for busy commercial kitchens where you would want to make sure to hear it. In a home setting, however, it is a bit jarring.
A small piece of felt with a sticky side placed over the speaker/beeper hole quiets it down and makes it perfect for home use.

Is it a continuous alarm until turned off? If not how long does it sound?

This does have a continuous alarm. There are different alarms for each time cycle. Thank you.
