I want a barrel to use to make sauerkraut. Is this barrel water tight and acceptable wood for not leaching into the kraut?

Hello, the barrel itself is not water tight and would need a liner to keep liquid inside. It is meant to be used as a display on its own, or to hold dry goods. Thank you!

The name indicates that the barrel is 14x18, but the specifications state that the length is 18.5 and height and width are 17.25. What are the true dimensions?
