The Wasserstrom logo has gone through several evolutions over the company’s 116+ year history.
At the age of fifteen, Rodney Wasserstrom (CEO, The Wasserstrom Company) began collecting Wasserstrom logo labels. And he placed them on the mirror in his boyhood bedroom (featured in the image above). At the time, Rodney worked summers and holidays at the manufacturing and distribution facilities. Even at his young age, he was learning the ropes of the family business.
His father Sidney and the approximate 60-70 associates who worked for Wasserstrom at the time, began giving Rodney the Wasserstrom labels. And for many youngsters his age at the time, sticker collecting was a popular hobby. And Rodney thought it was very cool to have a sticker collection featuring his own last name! He decided to showcase his collection on the mirror in his bedroom.
Items manufactured by Wasserstrom and products sold at the superstore all had the logo labels attached. In fact, one of Rodney’s tasks was to place the labels on the items. And he was given strict instructions by his family to work slowly and carefully in order to place them perfectly.
The Mirror Still Exists
Rodney’s collection spans about twelve years of collecting. And his boyhood mirror has survived all these years and is now located in one of the history “nooks” in our offices. The mirror is an interesting representation of the style and times of Wasserstrom in the 1950s and 1960s.
What is Rodney’s favorite label? While a difficult decision, he says it would probably have to be the white and black cursive logo. The logo dates from the 1950s and was modeled after his father Sidney Wasserstrom’s signature.
While we love our current logo, we also have great affinity for all the wonderful logos that preceded it. In fact, the mirror served as inspiration for the history logos lining the walls in our employee cafe. If you are in our corporate offices, be sure to stop by and take a look at our logo history.
