We are excited to announce the launch of our new Spanish language website feature. This enhancement aims to improve the shopping experience for Spanish-speaking customers across the United States.
Recognizing the significant role of Spanish-speaking professionals in the foodservice industry, we are taking steps to bridge the language gap, make our extensive catalog more accessible, and create a better customer experience for our Spanish-speaking customers.
Connecting With 30% of Foodservice
Historically, the restaurant industry has relied on immigrant labor. Many Spanish-speaking individuals who immigrate to the United States seeking employment opportunities find their point of entry in the foodservice sector.
“We understand the substantial contributions of Spanish-speaking individuals to the foodservice sector,” said Brad Wasserstrom, President of The Wasserstrom Company. “With our new Spanish language website, we’re actively creating a more inclusive experience for our valued customers and reaching out to a large portion of the industry that has been traditionally underserved.”
The Hispanic workforce constitutes a substantial portion of the foodservice sector. Specifically, in 2023, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that Hispanic or Latino workers accounted for approximately 30.4% of all food preparation and serving related occupations.
Breaking that down further, in a 2024 report, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that within the foodservice industry, Hispanic individuals make up:
- 21.3% of managers
- 21.5 % of head chefs
- 21.2% of first-line supervisors
- 41% of cooks
- 33.2% of food preparation workers
- 21.5% of bartenders
These figures reveal the large contribution of Hispanic workers within our industry, demonstrating their essential role in both the operational backbone and the emerging leadership of the industry.
Language Barriers
Shopping for specialized equipment and supplies is challenging when language barriers exist. Customers who primarily speak Spanish may encounter difficulties navigating an English-language website, including:
- Product Comprehension: Understanding detailed product descriptions, specifications, and technical terms is difficult without accurate translation. Subtle details about product quality, materials, or intended use are often lost, leading to unexpected discrepancies between what you thought you were buying and what you receive.
- Navigation and Search: Finding specific items or categories is time-consuming and frustrating when faced with unfamiliar terminology. Search terms might not translate accurately and website navigation and categorization may be unfamiliar.
By introducing Spanish language functionality, The Wasserstrom Company will minimize these obstacles and provide a more inclusive shopping environment to better serve our diverse customer base.
“We are dedicated to ensuring every customer feels fully supported throughout their purchasing journey,” explained Cathy King, EVP of Sales. “This new Spanish-language feature underscores our commitment to accessibility and customer care, creating a more functional and welcoming environment for our Spanish-speaking customers.”
