More and more, businesses are waking up to the important role corporate climate accountability plays in the global quest for sustainability. Soon, voluntary practices — like reporting greenhouse gas emissions — will be made mandatory for public corporations. The United States\u2019 disclosure rule issued in March of 2024 puts us aside Europe, Brazil, Nigeria, New Zealand<\/a>, and others, in a fight for corporate responsibility and transparency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While calling out businesses that don\u2019t adhere to sustainability practices is essential, so is acknowledging the innovative and inspirational changes responsible businesses are making. In this light, we\u2019re highlighting the efforts of our Canadian delivery partner, Purolator, in their mission to become the greenest courier in Canada<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Greener World, Delivered<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Purolator <\/a>is a leading integrated freight, package, and logistics provider, delivering packages to, from, and within Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As sustainability trailblazers, Purolator became the first Canadian courier to invest in environmentally friendly transport options<\/strong> with their transition to hybrid-electric vehicles back in 2005. In 2020, Purolator launched fully electric, low-speed vehicles and e-bikes<\/strong> to reduce its carbon footprint and provide greater fleet flexibility in densely packed cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, in 2021, Purolator was the first courier company to launch national fully-electric curbside-delivery trucks<\/strong> enabling them to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an impressive 24 metric tons (52,911 pounds) per year, per vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2023, 80 new, all-electric trucks were deployed across three pilot terminals<\/strong> including the Ford E-Transit\u2122, Motiv Power Systems EPIC4, and the GM BrightDrop Zevo 600. But their progress didn\u2019t stop there. Purolator went further by increasing the number of foot couriers<\/strong> to enable lower-carbon, last-mile deliveries and lowered the amount of fuel they consumed by digitizing and optimizing courier routes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aside from vehicles, Purolator has also greened their corporate offices and terminals<\/strong>, incorporating sustainable design features, energy-efficient equipment, low-flow fixtures, and on-site waste sorting, recycling, and compacting to divert waste from landfills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along with many partnerships such as Natural Resources Canada<\/a> (NRCan), the North American Council for Freight Efficiency<\/a> (NACFE), the Urban Delivery Solutions Initiative<\/a> (UDSI), they joined the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Net- Zero Council<\/a>. The Council consists of over 20 Canadian businesses committed to decarbonizing their operations by 2050.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The above is just a sample of the sustainability achievements Purolator has made. Over the last six decades, Purolator has grown from a company of two employees to recently launching 2024\u2019s \u201cDelivering the Future\u201d growth and innovation strategy, which includes major investments in environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
