How about an atmosphere that supports their health and wellbeing, while simultaneously increasing the perceived value of your establishment?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, we will take a look at some of the benefits indoor landscaping (or \u201cplantscaping\u201d) has to offer as well as potential challenges that could pop up. People in the United States spend, on average, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/report-environment\/indoor-air-quality#:\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">90% of their life indoors<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, that wasn\u2019t always the case. Humans evolved outdoors and are hardwired to benefit from the natural environment. Scientific studies continually show a positive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41598-019-44097-3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">exposure-response relationship<\/a> between humans and nature. Other resiliant indoor plants include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardenista.com\/posts\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-zz-plants-zamioculcas-zamiifolia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ZZs<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardeningknowhow.com\/houseplants\/pothos\/pothos-plant-care.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pothos<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/food52.com\/blog\/25437-monstera-swiss-cheese-plant-care-guide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">monstera<\/a> plants.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Biophilic design brings the direct experience of nature (light, air, water, plants, &#8230;) into our manufactured environment to increase health and productivity. Adding elements of biophilic design into the indoor areas we spend our time in changes how people feel within the space. The most prominent <a href=\"https:\/\/expmag.com\/2020\/09\/garden-hotels-forest-restaurants-plants-are-the-future-of-interior-design\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">benefits or emotional changes<\/a> include comfort, relaxation, and even a drop in our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/a-to-z-guides\/what-is-cortisol\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cortisol levels<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fundamentally, biophilic design seeks to turn interior environments into medicine for humans that are spending more and more time indoors. This improves the wellbeing of our bodies and minds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wasserstrom.com\/blog\/2021\/09\/09\/commercial-espresso-machine-buying-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Commercial Espresso Machine Buying Guide \u00bb<\/a><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Advantages of Plantscaping Within a Restaurant<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the mid-2010s, plants have continued to play a larger role <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harpersbazaar.com\/uk\/culture\/lifestyle_homes\/a28445573\/whats-driving-our-obsession-with-indoor-plants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in the home<\/a> and in restaurants. Here are some additional benefits of adding plants into either the original interior design of your establishment if you are just starting up, or into your existing layout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Plants <strong>brighten up a room<\/strong> and have a universal visual appeal.<\/li><li>Restaurants containing plants that are well cared for and thoughtfully displayed have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vibrantcitieslab.com\/resources\/business-district-streetscapes-trees-and-consumer-response\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a higher perceived value<\/a> by consumers than restaurants without them. <\/li><li>Plants are also a functional investment. For instance, instead of an entirely manufactured structure, use greenery as <strong>room and seating dividers<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Edible plants function as both d\u00e9cor and as valuable <strong>fresh ingredients<\/strong>.<\/li><li>They fill awkward spaces and <strong>hide imperfections<\/strong>, making the room more inviting to guests.<\/li><li>Plants, depending on their volume, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/science\/archive\/2019\/03\/indoor-plants-clean-air-best-none-them\/584509\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">purify the air<\/a> and <strong>reduce dust levels<\/strong>. <\/li><li>Plants help to <strong>absorb noise pollution<\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/technology\/archive\/2018\/11\/how-restaurants-got-so-loud\/576715\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">quiet a room<\/a>. <\/li><li>Lush greenery\u2019s effect on mood and wellbeing creates a positive emotional association with the restaurant, resulting in <strong>more repeat customers<\/strong> and strengthening your bottom line.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wasserstrom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/flora-gee4955d94_1920-1.jpg\" alt=\"Edible plants in a restaurant.\" class=\"wp-image-11430\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wasserstrom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/flora-gee4955d94_1920-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.wasserstrom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/flora-gee4955d94_1920-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.wasserstrom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/flora-gee4955d94_1920-1-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>There are many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prettyopinionated.com\/2020\/04\/5-edible-plants-that-double-as-decor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">edible plant ideas<\/a> to choose from that look great.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Challenges of Plant Maintenance Within Commercial Structures<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The benefits of adding greenery into indoor environments is evident. That said, plants do require attention and upkeep. They are sensitive to changes in their environment and are unable to flourish under debilitating conditions. In order to avoid exposing your patrons to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eater.com\/2018\/6\/27\/17506348\/restaurant-trend-houseplants-easy-actually-you-need-to-care-for-them\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dead plants<\/a>, thereby creating the opposite intended effect. Plan ahead by keeping a few common challenges to keep in mind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first challenge to plan ahead for is simply, plants need water. The surest way to accomplish this is to assign a dedicated staff member to quench their thirst. For example, can your plants handle air conditioning? Conversely, are they too close to the heat emanating out of the kitchen?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, their placement should be carefully considered. Keep them out of heavily trafficked areas where both servers and patrons are likely to bump into them and cause damage. And of course, plants require sunlight. Make sure you place them in areas that will <a href=\"https:\/\/stumpplants.com\/journal\/2016\/12\/31\/heres-the-lighting-situation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">meet their individual needs<\/a>.
