I bought these shelves separately to build a tall (72") shelving unit that was only 24" wide. Buying the posts and shelves separately worked out fine and the shelving unit is as sturdy and functional as any other. The reason I had to do this with separate components is that 72"H x 24"W shelving units are nearly impossible to find. The pricing worked out very well when put together.
